This term in reading we have been reading a book called boy on a bike and predicting what would come up first and then we would read it and see if our predictions were correct boy on a bike was a boy who was riding a bike to fundraise for his school he needed to furnace 5,000 but he got more than he expended he got 7,000 dollars and he went from that top of the north island to the bottom of the north island and he was only nine years old so 3,000 kilometers is a long way for a nine year old boy to bike to make the Predicting part easier for us we used a Predicting Template to Predict boy on a bike this Template was very helpful. This made it so much easier we all got this doon in under an hour.

This was my Template and

the trails he chose to take:

As you see my Prediction was not correct because I thought that he would ride his bike  and go on adventures and go to famous landmarks but he was trying to fundraise for his school to help it out and it was very impressive for a nine year old to bike all that way.

Would you start a fundraiser or bike like mac if your school needed the money and what would your fundraiser be?

Science

Intro

In Science we have been learning about electricity. Some of the experiments that we did was a solar car and trying to make a flashlight and more amazing things that we could do but it was all around electricity and how it worked.

One of the experiments we did was squishy circuits it was a experiment it was a confusing experimentsbut the trick was that you needed two differents sizes and materials

Materials needed :

.Copper

.Metal

.Clay

.A battery

.wire

.And a light

My Hypothesis: Before conducting my experiment I thought that it would not work because it just seemed impossible.

What I discovered: After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect because it actually worked because the power from the battery went through the wire and in the clay and into the light and lit it.

This was my experiment:

Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing the flashlight experiment because it did not have that many instructions so we could try and do it by ourselves but it was pretty fun.

Question for Audience:

Would you do this? And if you did, which one would you do?

PBL Reflection.

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community?

We are using something called The Resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better.

I have learnt that The Resilience Project is easy. It is just a GEM. GEM is  Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. These things would make my life better.

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students’ creations and learn more about The Resilience Project.

Here is the invite I made:

For the showcase evening I worked with my friends Romeo and Jacob.

We decided to create a mindfulness activity that was to do with sport. The sport was basketball. The activity was if you miss a shot you had to do a breathing exercise and if you got the goal you had to do a breathing exercise. If you got a three or a lay up you had to do breathing exercises and it was pretty easy because all you had to do was take a video of us do the activity and we would show us doing the activity.

Here is my final creation:

I now understand more about Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness and how I can use it in my life to be happier.

Throughout the creating process I feel like I collaborated really well with my group.

If I was to do this again, next time I would listen better to my group members.

Question

How can you show these things in your everyday life and would you show gratitude, empathy and mindfulness?

The goal’s of my year
